The fire was later put out, and all passengers were securely evacuated, an airport spokeswoman told CNN. Gabrielle Hibbitts, a passenger, told CBS News Colorado about the event.
She stated: “As soon as the plane landed, we smelled this weird burning plastic smell and then everybody started screaming and saying there was a fire.”
She went on to say, “There was smoke everywhere,” and her mother, Ingrid, called the situation “surreal” and expressed concerns that the aircraft was “going to blow up.”
Ingrid went on: “I’m really grateful that this happened on the ground because if this happened in the air, I don’t think I’d be standing here telling you the story.”
Twelve people were admitted to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the Denver Fire Department. In the meanwhile, American Airlines issued a statement expressing gratitude.
