Patriots Quarterback Nick Foles Will Play in Farewell Game Against Philadelphia Eagles in Home Opener After Announcement of NFL Retirement

During the September season opening for the Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Nick Foles will formally retire from the National Football League.

The 35-year-old football star broke the news on Thursday, August 8, via social media, where he posted an emotional video explaining his choice.

According to Foles, who has had a strong connection to the game ever since he was a little boy, “It’s crazy to be in this moment looking at this camera, officially announcing my retirement from the NFL” (Foles, 2019).

As he reflected on his career, he said, “It’s been such a special privilege to play for Philadelphia, St. Louis, Kansas City, Jacksonville, Chicago, and Indianapolis.”

Thank you for bringing so much joy to the game, NFL fans everywhere. “You guys are the lifeblood of the stadiums,” the athlete said.
