During the September season opening for the Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Nick Foles will formally retire from the National Football League.
The 35-year-old football star broke the news on Thursday, August 8, via social media, where he posted an emotional video explaining his choice.
According to Foles, who has had a strong connection to the game ever since he was a little boy, “It’s crazy to be in this moment looking at this camera, officially announcing my retirement from the NFL” (Foles, 2019).
As he reflected on his career, he said, “It’s been such a special privilege to play for Philadelphia, St. Louis, Kansas City, Jacksonville, Chicago, and Indianapolis.”
After much thought and prayer, I've decided to retire from the NFL. It's been an incredible 11-year journey filled with unforgettable moments and amazing people. From being drafted by the Eagles to winning the Super Bowl, every step has been a blessing.
