Pennsylvania Officer, 26, Dies by Suicide After LASIK Surgery: “I Can’t Take This Anymore”

A young Pennsylvania police officer who once lived to serve his community has died by suicide.

Leaving behind a devastating note blaming LASIK eye surgery for his suffering: “I can’t take this anymore. LASIK took everything from me.”

Ryan Kingerski, 26, of the Penn Hills Police Department, underwent the common refractive eye procedure in August 2024.

What was supposed to be a routine operation changed everything. Once a dedicated, optimistic young man with a future in law enforcement, Ryan’s life quickly unraveled following the surgery.

“He was excited,” said his mother, Stefanie, in an emotional interview with CBS News. “They always tout it—you go in and in three days, you’re fine.”

“It was supposed to be simple and effective,” added his father, Tim. “He’d be back to work in a couple of days.”
