Phil Donahue, a talk show icon, passes away aged 88

With the publication of their book What Makes Marriage Last: 40 Celebrated Couples Share with Us the Secrets to a Happy Life in 2020, Donahue and Marlo Thomas commemorated nearly 40 years of marriage.

In 2002, following the conclusion of his lengthy program, Donahue made a brief comeback to television with a show on MSNBC.

During the Cold War, he also co-hosted an avant-garde television discussion series in the 1980s with Soviet journalist Vladimir Posner.

Furthermore, Donahue co-directed the Academy Award-nominated documentary Body of War in 2006.

Donahue’s five children from a previous marriage—four sons and a daughter—remain. According to NBC.

His family has asked for donations to the Phil Donahue/Notre Dame Scholarship Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in place of flowers.
