Following the escape of over 40 monkeys from a research institution, South Carolina authorities issued a warning to citizens on Thursday to lock their windows and doors.
The CEO of the research institution informed CBS News that the elusive monkeys were still at large as of Friday morning. According to the Yemassee Police Department,
Authorities put up traps and used thermal imaging cameras in an attempt to find and apprehend the 43 primates who escaped from an Alpha Genesis facility in Beaufort County.
Police warned locals to avoid the primates after they were discovered in a forested area close to the facility, according to a late Thursday social media update.
“The staff at Alpha Genesis are currently attempting to entice the animals back using food in order to ensure their safe capture,” police said.
43 rhesus macaque monkeys escaped from a cage at Alpha Genesis’s facility, the business had previously stated.
