Police urge people to protect doors and windows after 43 monkeys escape from a research facility in South Carolina.

According to authorities, the monkeys were “very young females weighing approximately 6-7 lbs” and, because of their age, had never been utilized for testing.

“Residents are strongly advised to keep doors and windows secured to prevent these animals from entering homes,” police said previously.

“If you spot any of the escaped animals, please contact 911 immediately and refrain from approaching them.” Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard told CBS.

News on Friday that while none of the monkeys have been caught, they are still around the facility and are “being goofy monkeys jumping back and forth playing with each other.”

“It’s kind of like a playground situation here,” he said. According to Westergaard, while the corporation has set up baited traps, the monkeys have not yet entered them.
