The pilot radioed in just prior to the mishap, according to Roth, owner of New York Helicopter.
“He called in to say he needed fuel and that he was landing. He should have arrived in around three minutes, but he didn’t show up twenty minutes later,” Roth told The Telegraph.
Only minutes after the helicopter lost communication, at 3:17 p.m., emergency services were initially notified.
Later, when another pilot flew over the Hudson River and saw the plane upside down in the water, Roth was able to confirm the tragedy.
According to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the plane “lost control and hit the water.”
