Rapunzel Syndrome kills a 16-year-old girl who gorged herself on her own hair.

Medical professionals wanted to know what was really wrong, so they had an autopsy done on the girl. The results showed that she had been suffering from Rapunzel Syndrome.

Rapunzel Syndrome: What Is It? An exceedingly unusual illness, described by Web MD, involves a huge hairball (trichobezoar) being stuck in the stomach and spreading into the small intestine.

Because hair isn’t very good at moving through the digestive system, it has the potential to get caught in the stomach and finally ball up.

When the matted hair reaches the boundary of your stomach wall, it might start to protrude through the hole of your stomach and eventually expand into the small intestine.

The autopsy on Beever verified that she did, in fact, have an infectious hairball in her stomach. Tragically, she lost control of her key organs when an ulcer ruptured in her stomach.

In 2017, psychiatry professor Dr. Katharine Phillips spoke to Healthline on Rapunzel Syndrome and noted that the disorder often impacts females older than twelve.
