Everything changed when she realized that her two daughters—her entire world—could be taken away from her. That was the turning point that led her to seek help.

In 2015, Matos suffered a medical emergency related to her substance use, but first responders were able to save her life. Her daughters were playing just outside her bedroom door.

When it happened. After her release from the hospital, the girls went to stay with her parents. However, even this terrifying incident wasn’t enough at the time to stop the destructive cycle.

“It was one of the lowest moments of my life,” she recalled. “Still, I was so unwell that it didn’t stop me. I got home and continued with the same habits that had nearly taken my life.”
