To message me fills me with more hope and love than I can explain,” she wrote. “Thank you for letting me share my story. I love you all. We can do this together! Never lose hope!”
While Matos received many messages of encouragement, she also faced criticism from people who questioned her choices. She responded with grace and honesty: “I’m sorry if my story offended you.
Please forgive me for not responding to your negative messages and comments, but I am currently extremely focused on sharing hope and helping those who have reached out.”
Matos has remained sober since March 1, 2016. She began sharing her story—and the powerful photos that came with it—to inspire others on similar paths.
Today, she volunteers with recovery organizations and works with mothers who are overcoming substance dependency.
She now shares joyful photos of herself and her daughters, showing how far they’ve come. “Share with me your darkness,” she told her Facebook followers, “and I will lead you toward the light.”
