Early on May 1, Keith Krick of the California Highway Patrol told McClatchy News that Oliver was on State Route 299 in a Lexus sedan with his father, 21, and mother, 19.
He said that the vehicle “traveled off the road, down an embankment and into the Trinity River” while his mother was at the wheel.
Oliver was carried away as the parents desperately scurried to rescue themselves and their infant from the sinking vehicle.
Officials said the parents were treated at the hospital after suffering “moderate injuries.”Investigators are looking into what caused the collision. It is believed that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role.
Several images from the three-day search for baby Oliver were posted by Trinity County Search and Rescue.
