Sadness of the deserted orcas: Campaigners call for the rescue of killer whales and dolphins that are stranded in a closed marine park.

Since January, 12 dolphins and two orcas have been stranded in deplorable living conditions in a deserted marine park.

The magnificent animals are still kept in captivity in Marineland Antibes, a French marine park close to Cannes that closed four months ago.

Unsettling drone footage of the orcas Wikie, 23, and her 11-year-old son Keijo walking around the deserted park was made public by the animal advocacy group TideBreakers.

The surviving dolphins are housed in an algae-infested pool, which is also seen in the video.

However, in spite of their dire circumstances, French authorities have not yet found a suitable location for the orcas in Europe and have turned down a plan to relocate them to a marine zoo in Japan.

“The situation in Marineland Antibes is an emergency and requires international attention,” stated Marketa Schusterova, co-founder of TideBreakers.
