He acknowledged that there was no “crystal ball” for forecasting the natural event, but added details would be beneficial, stating: “We need ideal cases to understand how volcanos work.”
The possibility of unexpected behaviour is another issue he cautions about, saying: “There’s always a risk that a Volcano will follow a pattern that we haven’t seen before and do something unexpected.”
Even while he acknowledged that a 2025 eruption won’t completely change how eruptions are predicted, he said, “We’ll understand it better and that will help us understand other volcanoes, too.”
