The family brought Wa Siti home, where she was laid to rest the following day, surrounded by loved ones.
Her other son, Saimin, said he always worried about his mother working alone outdoors but knew she was experienced and had been working in the fields since childhood.
“She was familiar with the land and not afraid of wildlife,” he said. “But I knew something was wrong the moment I saw her basket.”
Local officials have since issued a warning to residents in the Buton Regency to stay vigilant, as similar incidents have been reported in the region.
Just days earlier, another case occurred in South Sulawesi, where a 66-year-old woman named Hasia was discovered after a search by her family.
