National Highways cautioned that there were “significant delays” in approaching the cordon from both directions and that the surrounding local roads were “heavily congested.”
After being stuck at the road closure, one irate driver posted on social media that he had been “at a standstill for an hour.”
“Traffic will be horrendous going into Newcastle and over the bridge,” remarked another driver.
