Sir Ian McKellen’s ‘rude’ and ‘very insane’ accusations against the Queen have prompted calls for the restoration of his knighthood.

Following his accusations that the late Queen was “quite mad” and “rude,” Sir Ian McKellen has been asked to surrender his knighthood. The comments were made by

the seasoned actor in a recent interview with a publication. I can almost feel the Queen’s wrath building up at the end, he said. Plus, she was rather impolite when we did meet.

Now, experts on the royal family have criticized the actor for his remarks, with some even suggesting he should resign his knighthood.

In 1991, Sir Ian was awarded the accolade for his contributions to the performing arts. In 2008, 17 years after his death,

the late monarch recognised his contributions to equality and the theatre by making him a Companion of Honour.
