Brazilian authorities have detained a 68-year-old father who is suspected of drugging his two daughters and routinely raping them for a year.
In a makeshift jail in his house in Juazeiro do Norte, in the Brazilian state of Ceara, the elderly man—who police did not identify—tied the sisters to soiled mattresses encircled by rotting garbage and human waste.
Photos of shocking police evidence reveal one daughter comatose on her horribly stained bed, while the other daughter’s feet are tied together with a makeshift hobble.
Both sisters seemed remarkably skinny and were reportedly severely malnourished and dehydrated. After receiving a tip from a terrified neighbor, they were saved during a police raid on May 5.
Police were informed by sources that they thought he had been mistreating them for a year or more. In an emergency room in the area of Limoeiro, the sisters, who are 36 and 38 years old, are recuperating.
