FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. — A tragic skydiving accident that occurred in April 1988 continues to resonate decades later.

After resurfacing details shed light on the horrifying final moments of a seasoned skydiver who leapt from a plane without a parachute.

Ivan Lester McGuire, 35, an experienced cameraman and skydiver with over 800 jumps to his name.

Died in a devastating incident while filming a student-instructor tandem jump at the Franklin County Sport Parachute Center in North Carolina.

According to reports from the time, including coverage by the Los Angeles Times, McGuire was at 10,500 feet preparing to document the training jump when he exited the aircraft—unaware that he had failed to strap on his own parachute.
