Preliminary findings indicate that a gust of wind may have had a role in the sad tragedy.
According to Sydney Trains CEO Matt Longland, who made the comment, “These sorts of incidents are incredibly rare, but clearly the outcomes are absolutely tragic.”
More than two hours after the incident, rescue workers continued to work on the rails, attempting to extricate the dead from under the train.
We have notified the National Rail Safety Regulator and are now conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Our goals include determining the train’s speed and the means by which the stroller came to rest on the rails.
