The patient was reportedly pushed to consent to a surgery by the medical staff at the Sunshine State health institution, who discovered that the patient’s spleen was the source of his problems.
According to a press statement from the legal firm, William asked to be discharged from the hospital so that he could visit his doctor on August 18 in Alabama, but he was “persuaded” to remain and have the surgery.
Zarzaur Law claims that Dr. Shaknovsky and Dr. Christopher Bacani, the hospital’s chief medical officer, informed the retiree that he “could experience serious complications if he left the hospital.”
William consented to the treatment, and on August 21st, he was brought into the operating room for a laparoscopic splenectomy
with hand assistance, during which medical professionals were to remove his spleen. However, Dr. Shaknovsky is charged with accidentally removing his liver instead.
In the process, the surgeon allegedly tore blood arteries that linked to the organ, according to Zarzaur Law, causing William to suffer ‘instant and catastrophic blood loss, terminating in death’.
