Routh’s defense lawyers are requesting their own independent analysis.
According to the defense, Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors cannot demonstrate that Routh intended to murder Trump if the gun would not have fired or if a bullet could not have struck Trump from the range at which it was fired.
“If he knew there was no chance it could hit the target, that negates intent,” said Renee Sihvola and Kristy Militello, Routh’s public defenders.
According to the federal prosecutors, the firearm was analyzed at the scene and by an FBI expert in Quantico, Virginia, and both tests were successful.
They claim that Routh’s intent can be demonstrated by testing alone.
