“Those that I have to fight for are usually the ones that I want that are different, like Reality,” Sweeney said in an interview with Variety.
“I had to give it an audition. Like everyone else, I had to record my audition and email it in.” She continued by describing the same difficulties she had at her White Lotus audition.
“For White Lotus, it was the same. Because I did euphoria, they didn’t believe that I was the proper candidate for White Lotus. Like everyone else, I recorded my audition for White Lotus, sent it in, and received a callback.
“I could get offered roles that are similar to the ones that I’ve played, but the ones that are different, the ones that surprise people that I do, are the ones that I usually have to fight for.”
Sweeney’s explicit moments in Euphoria made it difficult for some of her family members to even watch the program, even if she had to persuade casting directors to see beyond her HBO part.
In a Sunday Today With Willie Geist interview, Sweeney discussed her family’s response to her involvement in the program.
