A court was informed that two teenage best friends who perished in a horrific 75 mph crash while traveling to their school leaver’s ball were buried next to each other “holding hands.”
On July 31, 2023, Kiea McCann, 17, and Dlava Mohamed, 16, perished when their vehicle struck a tree in County Monahan, Ireland.
The court heard that 61-year-old Anthony McGinn, a friend of the McCann family, was placed in a “position of trust” to drive the two young girls to the Debs ball in Monaghan Town.
McGinn has entered a guilty plea to charges of reckless driving that resulted in their deaths as well as the significant injuries Dlava’s sister Auin Mohammed suffered in the same incident.
The Monaghan Circuit Court heard how McGinn drove at almost twice the pace of a 50 mph zone while ignoring his teenage passengers’ requests to “slow down.”
