Born Bertha Louise Hable, Lulu Roman died on April 23, 2025, in her son’s house. She was 78 years old. The cause of death for this well-known gospel performer was not made public.
She had moved to Bellingham, Washington, seven months earlier to be nearer to her son, Damon, who said she was surrounded by relatives at the time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Born on May 6, 1946, Lulu spent her early years in a Dallas Baptist orphanage.
She struggled with issues like a thyroid ailment that led to her being overweight, and regrettably, she was never adopted. She had drug problems in high school, which made her journey difficult.
After being arrested for drug possession in 1971 for marijuana, speed, LSD, and meth, she converted to Christianity in 1973, yet her narrative is one of salvation.
She reportedly remarked, “The Lord began working on me and making me into quite a different person than when I started after I gave my heart to Jesus.”
