The ‘hero’ church deacon was killed for’selfless courage’ in defending others during the Easter egg hunt shooting.

Shed, 39, was trying to shield the victim of the domestic conflict after the church function, according to The Sun Herald.

The Gulfport Police Department verified in a news release provided to PEOPLE that police arrived at the 12100 block of Prudie Circle Gable at approximately 2:05 p.m.

And “immediately began rendering aid” to two victims of gunshot wounds.

Gable, who lives in Saucier, Mississippi, allegedly opened fire on two individuals who were attempting to defuse the custody issue, according to the police.

One victim—possibly Shed—died at the spot, and another was evacuated to a hospital outside of the state.
