Melissa told Collins, “It dawned on me that we literally only had what was on our backs,” and she also made sure her cats had food when they were evacuated.
“Fortunately, I took whatever was at my house, which is where my workplace is located. That’s the end of all that belongs to my family and its history in my particular case.
The 56-year-old went on to say, “To be completely honest, I grabbed my mom’s Emmy, a picture of my dad, and a drawing that my mother had done of me and my son.”
She was referring to Joan’s Daytime Emmys trophy, which she had won for Outstanding Talk/Service Show Host in 1990 on behalf of The Joan Rivers Show.
Melissa marveled at how her mind worked under pressure and encouraged people in the region to pack a bag of necessities so they won’t have to make difficult choices on the spot.
