The Las Vegas veterinarian who was discovered dead in a lake after being captured on camera kicking a horse has had the cause of death verified.

The cause of death has been confirmed for a Las Vegas veterinarian who was found dead in a lake after a video surfaced showing him engaging in questionable behavior with a horse.

Dr. Shawn Frehner, 56, was found deceased on April 18 in the waters of Lake Mead, a large reservoir that spans Nevada and Arizona.

According to PEOPLE, authorities began a search after discovering his truck and several personal belongings abandoned near the shoreline the week prior.

His identity was confirmed on April 21, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, following a missing person report filed on April 6.

Frehner’s disappearance occurred shortly after a video circulated online that appeared to show him using force on a horse during a medical procedure.

Doctors refused to assist a couple who noticed their feet after walking on the beach.
