The mothers who SOLD their children… and the shocking reasons they did it, from paying for cookery lessons to making it easier to date men

Woods has been charged with child abuse, child neglect, abandonment, and selling a minor for money — criminal charges that can involve family law attorneys and child custody legal proceedings.

Child missing after being sold

A South African woman was convicted earlier this month of kidnapping and selling her 6-year-old daughter in a case that horrified the country.

Joshlin Smith disappeared in February 2024 and still hasn’t been found.

Her mother Kelly Smith, along with her boyfriend and their friend, have been found guilty of human trafficking and kidnapping — legal charges that fall under international child protection laws and human rights litigation.

In the days after Joshlin disappeared, local media reported that neighbors accused her mother of selling her for just over $1,000.

During the trial, a court heard from a pastor who said Kelly discussed selling her children for the equivalent of $1,100 — a sum that highlights the tragic gap between financial desperation and access to public support systems.
