A suspect in the 34-year-old cold case murder of a single mother who was viciously stabbed and abandoned to die on the side of the road has been taken into custody by Florida authorities.
Gene Stuller, 72, was arrested by the St. Cloud Police Department and is currently facing charges related to the 1991 murder of Julia Wilbanks, then 27.
At a press conference, detectives Chief Douglas Goerke stated that detectives were able to link the DNA recovered on Wilbanks’ body to Stuller thanks to developments in DNA technology, namely genetic genealogy.
After being “brutally stabbed approximately 17 times, including fatal wounds to her heart,” Wilbanks passed away, according to Chief Goerke.
Before a group of drivers found her, she had been dead on the side of the road for more than twenty-four hours.
