Just before she passed away on Thursday, April 24, Derrick Harmon was able to inform his mother, Tiffany Saine, that he had been selected for the NFL.
According to WTAE Pittsburgh, Harmon, 21, spoke candidly about his mother’s condition during a media call after the Steelers’ selection of him 21st overall.
On Thursday. He told reporters that the occasion seemed “a little bittersweet” since his mother was in the hospital on life support.
“That was a little bittersweet because she worked as hard just as me to get to this moment,” Harmon said. “It was an experience of a lifetime. I’m ecstatic.
Harmon said that as soon as he ended the press conference, he would immediately see his mother in the hospital. According to the site, he said, “I’m going to head straight to the hospital.
