Just before she passed away on Thursday, April 24, Derrick Harmon was able to inform his mother, Tiffany Saine, that he had been selected for the NFL.
According to WTAE Pittsburgh, Harmon, 21, spoke candidly about his mother’s condition during a media call following the Steelers’ selection of him 21st overall on Thursday.
He told reporters that the moment seemed “a little bittersweet” because his mother was in the hospital on life support.
“That was a little bittersweet because she worked as hard just as me to get to this moment,” Harmon stated. “It was an experience of a lifetime. I’m ecstatic.
Harmon stated that as soon as he ended the press conference, he would go visit his mother in the hospital.
According to the site, he declared, “I’m going to head straight to the hospital and tell her that her son got drafted,”
