Newman reflected on her viral celebration, admitting that she intended to frighten her “intense” instructors who had bolstered her to become an Olympic medalist.
“I am perpetually injured, but I am always able to regain my footing. Therefore, I decided to intimidate my coaches in order to encourage them to relax,
” she stated to CBC Sports. “Consequently, I declared that I would fabricate an injury and proceed to dance.” She continued to elaborate,
“It occurred in a very fluid manner.” “I did not anticipate that I would perform a twerk, but the entire process, from grabbing the object to reaching the knee with a twerk, was seamless.”
She also discussed her remarkable victory with CBC, stating, “I laugh because getting third is, I mean, I’ve never gotten third, but it’s funny because you still have to wait and sit there and wait until the other girls are done.”
