A 32-year-old woman was buried alive when a trench fell on her at her construction work, yet four years later, she believes that one part of her response saved her life.
Ashley Piccirilli’s life practically fell apart in 2021 after only seven days at her new work in Northampton, Massachusetts.
She and her coworkers were standing nine to thirteen feet underground in a hole laying a sewage line when the trench abruptly collapsed and “everything went quiet.”
Ashley noted in an article for People, “I’ll never forget the sound because it hit me from the left to the right, the sound of the dirt just kinda like a whoosh over my body.”
Ashley recalls feeling “tight and uncomfortable” and being unable to move an inch. She was left thinking, “How do I get out?”
