In her 2020 book, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” Mariah characterized her connection with her mother as a “prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment.”
Despite their difficult relationship, Mariah and her mother remained close. In fact, Mariah devoted a portion of her book to her mother, stating that she loved her unconditionally and that her mother did the best she could.
