The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) might even have more severe cuts ahead. At a time the CDC is tracking current avian flu and measles outbreaks in the US, it risks cuts of roughly $3.5 billion, roughly a third of its present budget.
Remember this is only a suggestion; it still has to pass Congress. Although it is unknown how much of these $168 billion cutbacks Congress will adopt, even Republican legislators seem not to be delighted with all of them.
