At the moment, Matos-Nieto is being held at the Denver Contract Detention Facility, which is a correctional facility operated by the private prison contractor GEO Group.
Matos-Nieto was arrested in Denver more than a month after Mike Johnston, the mayor of the city, was called before the House Oversight Committee to explain his alleged disregard for immigration enforcement.
In March, Johnston was joined by Eric Adams of New York, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, and Michelle Wu of Boston.
When the TdA members forced their way into at least three apartment buildings in Aurora, close to Denver, in June 2024, Johnston’s approach to this problem became clear.
