Investigators quickly ruled out a technical issue following the tragedy. It was determined that human error—more especially, the kids’ presence in the cockpit, which resulted in the autopilot being turned off—caused the catastrophe. The results were devastating: all passengers would have lived if the autopilot had been in operation, and the issue probably would have repaired itself. Numerous lives were lost in that careless moment.
