Animal effects in space
Many of the animals served as test subjects for research on the effects of radiation and weightlessness, and many were sacrificed to create room for human missions.
Scientists have learnt “a tremendous amount more than could have been learned without them,” according to NASA.
“Without animal testing in the early days of the human space program, the Soviet and American programs could have suffered great losses of human life,” according to NASA’s website.
“No human could or would have done the service that these animals provided to their respective nations.
They sacrificed their life and/or their service to improve technology, opening the door for humanity’s numerous space explorations.
