The rebel group that overthrew the Assad administration in Syria has established “diplomatic contact” with the government.
Following previous allegations that Joe Biden had delivered signals to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) via Turkey, the US said overnight that it had also established direct contact with the rebels.
As he unveiled £50 million in humanitarian help for Syria, Foreign Secretary David Lammy claimed the UK has spoken out.
The terrorist group HTS, which now controls the majority of Syria, is still illegal, he added, but Britain “can have diplomatic contact and so we do have diplomatic contact, as you would expect.”
Mr. Lammy said that chemical weapons inspectors operating in Syria will get a portion of the additional UK help. In order to keep the weapons out of rebel hands, Israel has started hitting warehouses.
