“They failed” – A family’s devastating inquiries for DFCS after the untimely loss of a toddler

RELATED: UPDATE | Police are searching for a guy who may have stabbed four people at Perry Mobile Home Park.

“In my house, my niece would have been secure. “There is no doubt that she would have been safe and loved here,” Fears added. “She wouldn’t have experienced this.”

Fears said that after the toddler’s mother’s imprisonment for child maltreatment in Houston County last year, she attempted to get custody of A’Layah.

After the children were split up, A’Layah was put in foster care before being moved to live with a father’s side family, which is also the house where she was slain.

Fears said, “I was the maternal side’s next of kin.” To place the children, DFCS usually contacts the next of kin. No one ever called me.
