According to CBS News, Koenig’s buddies Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik and Zachary Kwak entered guilty pleas to their roles in the assault last year.
At around 10:45 p.m. on April 19, 2023, the three friends were throwing rocks at oncoming vehicles when one of the rocks a big landscaping rock weighing nine pounds smashed through Bartell’s driver’s side window.
Bartell was driving north on the 10600 block of Indiana Street in Denver at the time, talking on the phone with a friend.
Bartell had a severe head wound and no pulse when police and rescue personnel arrived on the site.
According to CBS News, the rock was discovered nearby with blood marks on it.
