Walz never had that title, though, according to military sources and official documents. He did not retire with the designation of Sergeant Major, which was the highest rank he attained.
Another 2009 video shows Walz, who was a U.S. Congressman at the time, saying goodbye to troops leaving for Iraq.
Walz once more calls himself a “retired Command Sergeant Major” in the video, a rank he never ever held. Critics and veterans alike have called this blatantly obvious instances of stolen valor.
2009. Congressman Tim Walz sends a farewell message to some soldiers actually deploying to Iraq.
In the message, Walz claims that he is a "retired Command Sergeant Major."
