Walz allegedly left his regiment when they were sent to Iraq in order to run for Congress, which further fueled the scandal. Veterans who served with him or under his leadership have continued to dispute this choice.
Walz also discussed measures pertaining to veterans’ benefits and Trump-era tariffs during his remarks in the Capitol on Wednesday. The crowd’s attention was still on his contentious military record, though.
With some veterans arguing that Walz should be held accountable for allegedly lying about his military rank and service while serving in Congress and as governor, calls for accountability have gotten stronger.
