To pay off his drug habit, a Kansas man allegedly stole an 800-pound historic cannon.

TCN’s WICHITA, KS — A 125-year-old 800-pound cannon was allegedly stolen and broken from a nearby park by a man who intended to sell it to pay his drug dealer back.

When authorities discovered that a cannon had been taken from the Spanish American War Memorial at

Riverside Park on April 3, they started looking for the person responsible, according to the Wichita authorities

Department. When they discovered the cannon at a house that evening, they observed that it was “significantly damaged.”

Gordon Pierce III was taken into custody on suspicion of stealing, vandalizing, possessing methamphetamine, and violating other pending warrants.

The police department released surveillance and drone footage showing Pierce’s car’s journey around the city on

Wednesday, May 7. A portion of the cannon is heard and seen in one film dragging behind his SUV, leaving tire marks in its wake.
