“Any news, officer?” Derek asked in a worried tone of voice. The policeman shook his head gently. “We’ll notify you as soon as we learn anything, Derek.”
Derek sighed deeply. “A week has gone by with absolutely nothing.” “I understand that it’s challenging for you.
The officer said, “That’s why the police are doing everything possible to find Amber,” in an effort to be comforting.
“I worry about her,” Derek said, his eyes displaying his inner turmoil. The policeman said, “We all worry when a child disappears.”
“The best course of action at this time is to stay at home in case she returns.” Derek nodded slowly. He said, “All right, thanks,” and turned to leave the police station.
He decided to take a longer journey home to clear his head. While traveling, he tried to make sense of everything, but his mind kept returning to Amber. Suddenly he saw a poor lady carrying a familiar bag.
