“I wanted to say something when she didn’t come back for three days, but then I got scared that I would get in trouble for keeping quiet for so long,” Claire said, her voice trembling.
“Now forget about it. Do you know where Amber is located? Derek asked, hoping to find out anything useful.
“No, she isn’t answering me either. “I haven’t heard from her since she left,” Claire complained. With an increasing sigh, Derek said, “All right, Claire, thank you.”
He ended the call and looked at the road ahead. If Amber had gone to the concert, she would have been back by now.
She did not, however, show up, suggesting that she was injured. The hours appeared to pass quickly as Derek drove, his pulse pounding.
Finally, he was able to carry the backpack to the address. He got out of the car, approached the door, and hammered.
