The middle school student was last spotted in Tallahassee’s Continental Court area in June 2023, just before her remains were found.
On June 3 of that year, her father filed a missing person’s report, saying that “she left home with her backpack sometime overnight while he was at work,” according to a press statement issued by TPD on Friday.
For almost a year, detectives followed up on leads and interviewed people in other states. Police claimed that they eventually started to find contradictions in Wiley’s initial account.
Detectives took a phone from the father’s house in February 2024.
According to the police statement, “a forensic analysis uncovers questionable internet searches about remote areas with bodies of water in Alabama and Georgia, among other things.”
Police claimed that as new details regarding Wiley’s relationship with Paige surfaced, they began to focus more intently on him.
