Allen Ray McGrew, 41, of Summerville, South California, was summoned to an address on Cottonwood Drive by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s department on Thursday (4 July) after a lighted firework he had put on his head burst.

Around 10:30 p.m., Allen’s wife Paige McGrew told The Post and Courier that her husband was ‘carrying this firecracker over his top hat’ while dressed as Uncle Sam in stars and colors.
She was under the impression that he was “just showboating before he set it on the ground,” but she later learned that “he had already lit it.” The fireworks went off despite her and others’ concerns.
At around 11:10 p.m., McGrew was declared deceased at the scene after collapsing, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s department.
