In Rawdon, Montreal, the bride had performed the recently popular rite of passage by entering the Ouareau River close to Dorwin Falls.
During the filming, Pantazopoulos had not been joined by any family members.
However, CTV News stated at the time that Maria’s bridal dress became too heavy in the water when she was posing for pictures.
The bride, who is said to be “small of stature” and weighed about 100 pounds, was swiftly overpowered as a current dragged her to the bottom of the ocean.
The water was reported to be about eight meters deep in that specific area.
