In his first agreement with a foreign country since enacting the divisive tariffs, Donald Trump has confirmed a “major” new trade pact with the United Kingdom.
The 47th president has imposed numerous levies on countries worldwide since taking office again in January.
Although world leaders have widely criticized such actions, the US has finally succeeded in negotiating a new trade agreement with the UK, one of its closest friends.
As he wrote: “Big News Conference tomorrow morning at 10:00 A.M., The Oval Office, concerning a MAJOR TRADE DEAL
WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF A BIG, AND HIGHLY RESPECTED, COUNTRY,” Trump teased the major news on May 7 on Truth Social. “THE FIRST OF MUCH MORE!”
Under the leadership of Sir Keir Starmer, the UK government has been working to reach an agreement with the US to
lessen the effects of the broad tariffs that Trump announced last month. These duties included a 25 percent charge on steel, aluminum, and automobiles, as well as a 10 percent levy on all UK exports.
